James Bond 007: Blood Stone review

Posted : 6 years, 1 month ago on 19 August 2011 01:11 (A review of James Bond 007: Blood Stone)

The best Bond game in recent memory. It ma have borrowed a bit from Splinter Cell Conviction but I don't care because that is one of my favorite games ever! Plus it's got car chases! Can't wait for Goldeneye Reloaded later this year!

Great cornerstone, above-average flick

Posted : 6 years, 5 months ago on 10 April 2011 10:52 (A review of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Three-Disc Ultimate Edition) )

Ah, Mr. Potter, what to write about you! Up until about two weeks before the release of HP 7.1, I hadn't the foggiest idea about your adventures. I might have appreciated this cornerstone in the series more if I had seen it some ten years ago, when it first released. Instead, I was given the DVDs by a good friend who was upgrading to these Ultimate Editions. With nothing to lose but a couple of hours of my day, I decided to dive headfirst into Hogwarts. That decision opened me up to not only a great fantasy world but an incredibly well-constructed film series. I agree that the filmmakers had to start at the beginning. They also had to contend with legions of preteen fans and their fickle parents. All I can say is that they got just about everything right! It hasn't appealed to me in my older age simply because of the age gap between myself and our unassuming hero. The first two films were clearly geared toward that child audience that has grown up right alongside this series, as it should. Can't fault them for that!
As anyone reading this can see, I have a large collection and have my share of "super dooper, double-decker" editions. This Ultimate set is the first of a planned eight part whopper, and it does not disappoint! I rank these right up there with the LOTR extended editions for value added content. All of the features from the DVD is here as well as the first part of an eight part documentary that is truly a complete look into the making of this entire series.

I cannot recommend this set highly enough!!

Taken

Posted : 8 years, 4 months ago on 13 May 2009 07:51 (A review of Taken)

This is a very solid movie. If you are a fan of the Jason Bourne series, this movie will be right up your alley. Liam Neeson plays a dedicated father that is willing (and able) to do any and everything to rescue his daughter from the hands of Albanian sex traders. The story is about as straightforward as it gets and the action is realistic and unrelenting. This disc contains the rated (PG-13) and unrated versions of the film and a few forced trailers. I opted for the single disc edition because I found that the features contained in the 2-disc set (20 minutes of standard fluff plus commentaries) didn't justify the extra $7. Go get this movie or "I WILL find you, I WILL kill you."

Indy 4 Baby!!!

Posted : 8 years, 11 months ago on 16 October 2008 12:33 (A review of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (Two-Disc Special Edition))

While not the strongest entry of the franchise, "Skull" is worthy of the Indy name. Upon watching the features, I was amazed at how much was shot practically. There were some scenes in the theater that I swore were CGI. Example, every scene where Indy cracked the whip. I thought that the whip was CG. Then to different camera shots of Indy wrapping up a machine gun, it suddenly hit me that the old man actually still had the goods! Great flick!!

I Am Iron Man

Posted : 8 years, 11 months ago on 11 October 2008 01:58 (A review of Iron Man)

2008's "Iron Man" was, to say the least, a commercial and critical success. And for good reason. It has everything that a summer blockbuster could ask for. Action, plot, believable characters, heart, etc, etc. There is almost nothing that this movie could be criticized for. To put it simply, if you love movies, you'll love Iron Man.
